Since I posted Wednesday's blog yesterday (Tuesday), today I present the one that should have been posted on Tuesday:
Technical Tuesday One Step
According to
the book Ultimate Body-pedia : An Amazing Inside-out Tour of the Human Body
by Christina Wilsdon, taking a single step uses up to 200 muscles. One single
step! Think about that for a minute, then think about what a dancer does in a
single ballet class. Whew!
No wonder
ballet is so challenging. Of course, as soon as we are able to walk, we’ve
mastered (or close to it) the ability to use those 200 or so muscles. Dancing
just requires us to learn how to use a lot more, and in many different ways.
So the next time
you feel discouraged with your technical progress, remember the complexity of
the human body and congratulate yourself on how far you’ve come!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Anatomical Secret #26hh:
“For an adult human, taking a single step
uses up to 200 muscles."
