Sunday
Intrinsic
The word “intrinsic”
means “being an extremely important and
basic characteristic of a person or thing”, according to the Cambridge
English Dictionary. Therefore, intrinsic motivation would be motivation that
arises from your deepest being, so much so that it is a part of you.
What is your
intrinsic motivation? It is helpful to define it, and make sure that the goals
you are pursuing aren’t in conflict with it. It sounds crazy, but often dancers
find out that they’d rather be drawing or acting or playing piano, or some
other artistic pursuit. That being said, a dancer (or other artist) will almost
always discover that their intrinsic motivation is art-related. It’s as though
art chooses us, not the other way around.
Take some
time today and think about your intrinsic motivation. You’ll either be
surprised, or reinforced. Happy Sunday!
