Mad Monday
Prep Turnout
Sometimes
the problem with pirouettes, or any turn, is a lack of turnout before the
take-off. Dancers forget to think about
fully engaging their turnout before and
during the preparatory plié.
Also, the
lovely, spiraling action of the legs rotating in the hip sockets help ensure a
solid position for the turn itself, plus providing a more effective push to
propel the turn.
The next
time you are working on perfecting your turns, concentrate on the Prep Turnout –
engaged even before the plié itself.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #14i:
“Remember to engage the prep-turnout.”
