Marvelous
Monday Sun Rays
Breathing is
critical. No surprise here. Sometimes the problem dancers have isn’t holding
their breath but squashing it. And we all know there is no squashing in ballet.
If the body isn’t
lifted properly, the rib cage compresses and it makes breathing difficult, if
not impossible. So try this: Imagine rays of sunlight pouring outward from the
space in between each rib. Of course these beautiful rays go on to infinity.
These rays
are constant, and at no time should any of them be cut off by a collapsing rib
cage.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #21rr:
“Imagine rays of sunlight emanating
from between your ribs.”
