Take-Off Toes
We all know
that a good jump preparation involves not only a good pliƩ (which is
essential), but also a strong push from the feet (or foot).
To achieve
maximum thrust, don’t forget the toes. Remember the rocket booster effect of
the toes? Ballet Secret # 16c:. “When jumping, imagine the toes as fiery
rocket boosters.” Today’s idea is
another way to think about this concept.
You have “take-off
toes”. The last part of your body to leave the floor are your toes, so they
provide the last chance you have to add thrust to your jump. This is especially
important in big jumps, and unfortunately this is often where the toes are
forgotten.
The next
time you do a grand allegro, concentrate on your toes.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #15eee:
“Remember your “take-off” toes for
big jumps.”
