Fun Friday Geotropism

Fun Friday Geotropism

It's always fun to learn new words. Here is one: geotropism. It means: “the growth of a plant or immovable animal in response to the force of gravity”.  https://www.yourdictionary.com/geotropism

But it gets better. The roots of a plant grow downward (this is called positive geotropism), while the shoots grow upwards (negative geotropism). This is also called gravitropism.

Now consider all this when working on your postural energy. The body lengthens upwards while at the same time you send energy downward. Balletic geotropism!

All that and better vocabulary too!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret #16nn:
“Think about geotropism for energy up and down.”

Quote of the Day:
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
