Mad Monday
Foot Shape
Once a
dancer “goes on pointe” they enter into a constant quest for the perfect pointe
shoe. This is a complicated thing, largely because feet are so complex.
Everyone has
a unique foot shape. But, as you can see above, an attempt has been made to
categorize the most common of these shapes, and how it impacts the choice of a
pointe shoe. I might add, however, that foot shape is only one of many variables that must be considered.
Pointe shoes
are as individual as their wearers, and what works for one dancer will not work
for another. A good teacher can guide a student initially, and later, each
dancer will explore the vast territory of shoe styles on their own, and may, if
they are lucky, find one that is perfect for them.
If not, the
quest will continue.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #23b:
“There are many different foot shapes
and the quest for the perfect pointe shoe is ongoing.”

Quote of the Day:
“The most important
reason for going from one place to another is to see what's in between, and
they took great pleasure in doing just that.”
