Crossed Statute
Closing your
feet in fifth position can often be more of closing your feet in third. Now
this would be perfectly acceptable if third was the goal, but 99.9% of the time,
it isn’t.
But wait! There
is a Ballet Statute that will
guarantee your feet will end up in fifth and not third. It is simple: If you
think of crossing your thighs, your
feet will cross. This never fails because your feet are firmly attached to your
legs.
It is also
another example of top-down thinking,
as opposed to bottom-up thinking
(like correct turn-out, for example).
Now your
feet will always end up in fifth and not third!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Statute #177:
“If you cross your thighs, your feet
will cross.”
