Fun Friday Wrap or Squeeze
Dancers are often told to “squeeze the bottom” to produce turn-out. But is not effective at producing the muscular action correct turn-out requires.
Instead of squeezing, wrap. Feel the muscles of the upper thigh wrapping outward and around toward the seat. This wrapping sensation must be level, to prevent “tucking” the pelvis. And as we all know, there is no tipping, tilting, or tucking in turn-out.
When wrapped correctly, a dimple will appear on each side of the bottom. This dimpling may be where the original idea of squeezing the seat came from. But these indentations are simply the result of correct turn-out.
So imagine wrapping the thighs, not squeezing the seat.
