Technical Tuesday Frontalis
The frontalis muscle covers part of the skull and some sources state that it is a part of the occipitofrontalis muscle along with the occipitalis muscle. Be that as it may, the interesting thing about the frontalis muscle is that its only job is to help create facial expressions – it wrinkles the forehead, assists in retracting the upper eyelids, and lifts the eyebrows. Therefore, it is pretty important for everyone and dancers in particular.
The frontalis muscle is thin, and has no bony attachments. As you can see by the above illustration it is located on the front of the head.
