Sunday Reality and Expectation
The above illustration portrays a great truth. Reality is never exactly what you expect it to be. Reality is messy. Expectations tend to be simple and glorious – or at least wonderful. You can see the problem.
Unhappiness is usually the result of unrealistic expectations. Expecting to be nominated for an Oscar probably won’t happen. Expecting to be the greatest dancer on the planet (who ends up in the history books) probably won’t happen. Expecting it to happen will only lead to – unhappiness.
But, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t strive for the best. Keep striving, but recognize that you may not get what you expect, when you expect it. All that being said, you could get it – later. You could get it – or something different, that turns out even better.
Like I said, reality is messy.
