Wacky Wednesday Nose
A common problem with the arms in pas de
chat (or other steps like brisé that use the same port de bra) is forgetting
about the following arm. This causes it to either droop, or flail back and
forth with the body’s movement. Scary stuff.
To combat this habit, imagine the front,
or leading curved arm as the face and nose of a cat, and the following arm as
its lovely slightly curved tail. The tail must have as much energy as the
leading arm (cat’s nose).
This works especially well for pas de
chat, since it is, after all, the step of the cat.
From the Big
Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #6kkk:
“For pas de chat imagine the curved, front arm as a
cat’s nose, the back arm as the tail.”
