Mad Monday V

Mad Monday V

A common problem for dancers involves the shoulders. You know, shoulders that warm the ears. Not good. Often caused by anxiety and tension, this can be a difficult habit to break. Relaxation exercises are the first step if worrisome thoughts are the trigger.

But sometimes it’s simply a matter of using the muscles of the torso correctly. The easiest way to do this is to visualize the letter V. V for visualize!

Imagine the torso as a giant letter V with the widest part at the shoulders and the narrow (bottom) part at the tailbone. This helps feel the width across the shoulder blades and fosters awareness of energy in the shoulders going sideways instead of up.
