Wacky Wednesday Wonky
It has come to my attention that wonky is a word that isn’t used a lot
these days. But it is such a great word to describe those things in ballet that
are just a little bit off. It is short and to the point, unlike cattywampus
(which is defined as “not being lined up correctly”). I guess cattywampus would
be better suited for poorly executed corps de ballet work.
Wonky works for things like a slightly off-center
pirouette, a leaning passé, a twisted tendu. Wonky. It works for practically everything that can go wrong in
ballet. The word is defined as “crooked,
off-center, askew, unsteady, shaky, faulty,” or simply “not functioning properly”.
