Wacky Wednesday Smiley Face
I've been blogging lately about things we could paint on
tights: a line running beside the shin bone, and a while back we talked about
painting the words en dehors on the back of the thigh and en dedans on the front to assist in determining the direction of a
turn. Today we are adding another piece of artwork to the tights.
The knees give a more or less rounded appearance; therefore
we could easily draw a round smiley face on each knee. This is helpful,
especially for turn-out. The round face – all
of it – needs to “look” in the proper direction. Generally, this is to the
side, for example in a tendu devant or in an arabesque. Especially in arabesque
where I so often see a slightly turned-in working leg which allows the heel to
be seen. Instead, the entire smiley
face must face outward, thus hiding the heel.
So imagine smiley faces on your knees this week.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #3o:
“Imagine a round smiley face on each knee.”
