Throwback Thursday and Joyce Cuoco
Joyce Cuoco was born in Boston in 1953. She received her
dance training from Harriet Hoctor and from E. Virginia Williams, the director
of the Boston Ballet. She first appeared on national television on The Danny
Kaye Show when she was twelve years old. Celebrated as a modern “baby ballerina”
she went on to perform at Radio City Music Hall and on The Ed Sullivan Show,
among other venues.
Known for her multiple pirouettes and amazing ability to
balance, Joyce Cuoco charmed audiences. She later joined The Stuttgart Ballet
as a soloist and she stayed in Germany for the rest of her career.
Today she is the assistant to Youri Vamos, and is involved
in many of his full-length ballets. She is also the director of the school of ballet
of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf.
There are several videos on Youtube of her performances,
both as a child and later in her career.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Dance History Factoid #62:
