Sunday Building Blocks
Remember the book “All
I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” by Robert Fulghum? If you
haven’t read it, I suggest putting it on your list of books to read.
There are many
lessons from kindergarten, elementary school, and even preschool that we would
all do well to remember. One that comes to mind is an exercise primary teachers
use to demonstrate that everyone in a person’s life is important.
Building blocks are
labeled with “Mom”, “Dad”, “Sister”, “Brother”, “Best Friend”, etc. The labels
can be anyone from family members to the mailman or next door neighbor. The
students are instructed to build a tall, narrow tower with the blocks, placing
a block with their own name written on it at the very top.
After the tower is
completed, the pupils are asked “Which block can you remove, other than your
own?” They quickly realize that every block is important, and without any one
of them the tower will fall.
So today, consider
all the building blocks in your life.

“And
it is still true, no matter how old you are -- when you go out into the world,
it is best to hold hands and stick together.”
