Saturday Posture Statute
Here it is again: another equal and opposite energy idea.
This time it is a Ballet Statute –
you know, those things that are absolute and unchanging.
For good postural alignment dancers must feel the sensation
of the spine lengthening upwards (putting air space in between each vertebrae),
while (at the same time) the shoulder blades are pulling downward (into the hip
pockets).
This is especially helpful for maintaining a solid torso for
any turning movements that might tend to cause twisting in the body.
Spine up, shoulder
blades down!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Statute #86:
“Spine up, shoulder blades down.”
