Fun Friday Bookends
Every grand battement includes tendu and a dégagé–
on the way up and on the way down. This is important because it ensures that
the foot is pointed before it ever leaves the floor.
Think of it like this: there are bookends on each side of a
grand battement. On the way up it’s tendu,
dégagé; and on the way down it’s
dégagé,
tendu. Neat, efficient bookends.
And just as bookends on a shelf keep books from losing their
upright alignment and falling over, grand battement bookends do the same thing for
dancers – and more.
