Saturday Statute Pelvis Direction
Earlier this week I wrote about the muscles involved in
turn-out and included a drawing of the pelvis and how these muscles attach,
etc.
Another important thing to remember about the pelvis is
this: it is a large group of bones, and wherever the pelvis goes, the rest of
the body usually follows. After all, it’s the first thing that moves whenever a
person sits down.
Dancers need to remember that if the pelvis is out of alignment in any movement,
all hope is lost. Usually the trajectory will be backwards, but other
directions can result – none of them good.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Statute #82:
“ Wherever the pelvis
goes, you will go.”

Quote
of the Day:
“It is better to take many small steps in
the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble
backward.”
