Fun Friday Envelope
One of the most common technical problems, especially for
beginners, is maintaining correct posture. No surprise here. It’s always a
concern, even for accomplished dancers. This problem is often visible early in
class, during pliés when the torso drops forward or squashes. Not good.
To prevent this,
imagine that the body is being slid into an envelope. In order to fit smoothly,
the alignment must be straight. Otherwise the envelope will rip (see photo
above) – or the body can’t be placed inside at all.
Have fun: Imagine envelopes during pliés!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret #1iii:
“To maintain straight
alignment, imagine sliding down into an envelope.”
