Madcap Monday Hip or Heel
We all know that a tendu devant leads with the heel to
maintain turnout, and that a tendu derrière leads with the toes for the same
reason. Well, here’s a new thought.
Imagine initiating the tendu movement (in any direction) by
rotating the leg in the hip socket a tiny bit more. Of course, we should be
doing this all the time anyway, but by rotating a bit extra right before the
tendu – actually initiating the movement with
the rotation - the whole leg all the way down through the toes will be
fully turned-out. Voilà! The perfect tendu.
That’s a lot of benefit for one simple thought.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret #4u:
“ Think of initiating a tendu from the rotation in the hip.”
