Mad Monday Spare Ribs
When a dancer’s arms go up to fifth en haut (high fifth),
often the ribs poke out. This happens when the student forgets to use the equal
and opposite energy of “ribs down – arms up”.
Needless to say this destroys correct alignment and also doesn’t look good.
Scary.
Whenever the arms move overhead, there must be a
corresponding energy in the abdominals and the rib cage that pulls inward and
downward. Otherwise, “spare ribs” result.
And spare ribs are only good for barbecue, not ballet.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret #1jjj:
“Spare ribs are only
good for barbecue.”
