Mad Monday Back Pockets
Here is another postural image to prevent rounded shoulders
(a common problem in this computer age). Sitting up and/or standing straight is
important for everyone, not just dancers.
To maintain a good, upright posture, in addition to lengthening the spine upwards, and the muscles elongating downward, imagine
this: the shoulder blades pulling downward as though they are being put into
the back pockets in a pair of jeans.
There you have it. Keep your shoulder blades in your back
pockets!
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret #1kkk:
“Imagine the shoulder blades dropping into the back pockets.”
