Mad Monday Quicksand
Creating resistance in ballet is a critical skill. Dancers don’t work (in class) with weights or gym equipment like athletes do to build and tone muscles. In a ballet class we use mental images to create our resistance.
Tendues are a prime example. If the foot slides easily in and out, little is accomplished. But if the foot moves against resistance, muscle tone and skill is developed.
So to create this mental resistance for tendues, imagine the foot moving through quicksand. Nice, thick, sticky quicksand. Push the foot in and out through this, and the correct resistance will be there.
