Wild Wednesday Tilt and Level
It is important for dancers, especially beginners, to understand
when things tilt or incline and when things must stay level. They must also
learn when these things change. And some people say ballet is easy!
The position of the head is a great example, since most
positions require both an incline (tilt) and a one- quarter turn. In ecarté
however, the head doesn’t tilt or incline to the side although the shoulder
line does incline slightly.
The pelvis is another example. Most of the time it is level,
level and level. If a dancer shifts to one foot, the pelvis does a lateral shift over the supporting leg,
and the pelvis remains level. This changes when the extensions are high,
especially to the back.
So stop and consider when things tilt and when they remain
level.
