Fun Friday Handwriting
Training in cursive writing is being eliminated from many
schools, and so today’s idea might not be as easily utilized as some. But most
people have seen handwriting (as opposed to printing), and so the image can
still work.
Dance, although it is always a series of individual steps,
should never appear that way. Like handwriting -that includes individual
letters but appears as a long, lovely line of script – dance should be
continuous as well. It should never reveal where the connections are.
This requires something I’ve talked about before: a dancer
is always thinking about the next step while performing a step. Always thinking at least one step ahead.
This is what makes the choreography seamless, continuous and beautiful. Just
like gorgeous penmanship.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret # 45w:
“Movement should be
continuous, like flowing handwriting.”
