Wild Wednesday Stretch
Dancers are a determined lot. They are highly motivated, and
most definitely goal oriented. And most of the time, this is a great thing. The
problems only occur when these positive traits go too far.
Take stretching, for example. Becoming flexible is not an
overnight process, and too much determination (i.e. force) here is
counterproductive. Aggressive stretching is not good. In fact, it is scary.
Muscles can tear and set a dancer back for months.
Stretching must be done with gentle determination. It is
never ballistic or aggressive. Always, always, gentle and daily. It’s a true
case of the fable of the tortoise and the hare – slow and steady wins the race.
