Fun Friday Tortoise and Hare
Everyone remembers the fable of the tortoise and the hare. It tells of a race and how the hare ran so fast and was so far ahead he kept stopping – smirking at how he was certain to win. But the tortoise, undaunted, kept plodding slowly along and it was he – not the hare – that ultimately won the race.
This is an excellent fable for dancers. So often the obviously “talented” students zoom ahead, winning accolades and nods of approval. Yet, it is not unusual for them to burn out, or never learn how to work effectively for the long run that dance requires.
The slow and steady dancers – sometimes those considered less “talented” - are often the ones who succeed. The tortoises of the dance world. You might be surprised how many there are!
