Wild Wednesday Shock Absorber
Have you ever ridden in an old car with bad shock absorbers? It’s a bumpy ride. But how do shock absorbers in a car work? Here is one definition:
“Inside the shock absorber there's a piston that moves inside a tube that is filled with oil. As the piston moves, the oil is forced through tiny holes and valves within the piston, precisely controlling the amount of resistance to movement.” https://mobiloil.com/en/article/car-maintenance/advanced
You may have noticed the phrase “controlling the amount of resistance to movement”. Aha! There it is again – resistance, two-way energy, etc. That’s what an effective plié does for a dancer. It acts as a shock absorber, providing “resistance to movement” (it prevents crashing and succumbing to gravity).
So imagine your pliés as resilient shock absorbers!
