Fun Friday Triple Toaster
Back in September I blogged about how pliés should be done “in
a toaster”. This toaster image prevents
a dropped chest, and keeps the seat from sticking out. It also seems to help students remember to
keep their head up.
It occurred to me the other day that there are actually three toasters that dancers can
use. The original one, for the torso,
plus two more: one for each leg in a plié. If each foot is “stuck in a toaster”, then it
is impossible for the knees to roll forward during the plié, and instead the
knees align perfectly over the toes.
Voilà! Three toasters
for perfect pliés and alignment! Never
take class without them.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #2f:
“For perfect plies,
imagine three toasters: one for the
torso, and one for each leg.”
