Fun Friday and Parrots

Fun Friday and Parrots
Some dancers use their shoulders to lift their arms, or have the common problem of holding tension in that area.  This lifts the shoulder area, causes the neck to recede, and generally distorts the entire alignment.  Not to mention being uncomfortable.
Here’s a Fun Friday idea that might help:  imagine a parrot sitting on one shoulder (or both!).  Aaaayyye matey!  Do not launch the parrot by suddenly lifting or jerking the shoulder.  Make a nice, secure, level perch for the bird.  After all, he probably doesn’t have a “parrot-chute” to cushion his landing if he gets propelled into space.

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #1q
“To keep the shoulders level, imagine a parrot sitting on one shoulder.”
