Wild Wednesday Saut de Chat
Today I’m talking about that wonderful big leap called saut
de chat. In the French school this translates to “cat’s jump”, and is more similar
to an Italian pas de chat. But I’m focusing on the American version of saut de
chat which is a grand jeté where the front leg performs a développé instead of a
battement.
It is this développé that helps give the jump it’s
applause-getting appearance, because it makes it appear as though the dancer
actually pauses in the air at the height of the jump. At the peak of the jump,
if the dancer takes a breathe, it increases this illusion. Another critical
aspect of this jump is the preparation . These preliminary steps must accelerate – get faster and faster until
the final jump.
Today’s link explains saut de chat beautifully and covers
several ballet secrets, many of which will be familiar to those of you who
follow this blog - like equal and opposite energy patterns.
