Fun Friday Poised Position
Dancers learn quickly that they are expected to be ready and
exhibit good dance posture before the music begins for any exercise. But it is
more than that. This ready-posture is critical for everything a dancer does.
If you have ever observed a cat preparing to pounce you have
seen the coiling of energy that allows the animal’s quick and efficient
movement (pounce) that follows (see today's Link of the Day). Dancers need to do this too. This “coiling” is
all but invisible, but it must be there.
I call it the Poised
Position. It must be more than just “pulling up”. The dancer’s posture is
good, and there is an energy up as well
as energy down running through the body. Now the dancer is ready (poised)
for whatever movements may follow.
It’s all about that two-way (or more) energy thing again!
