Saturday Click-and-Sigh Statute
Yes, it’s true. There is no “click and sigh” in ballet.
These moments usually come with a roll of the eyes – also not allowed.
You know what I mean. The click of the tongue, a sigh,
sometimes a shrug, and a roll of the eyes. All of it indicating “attitude”. It
is a physical manifestation of the phrase “whatever…” This behavior is often seen in adolescents,
but may be present in anyone. It shows a lack of respect, not only for the
teacher and other students, but also for the dancer doing the click-and-sigh.
It prevents a positive attitude
by replacing it with a negative attitude. Never a good idea.
That’s why there is no click-and-sigh in ballet. Not now.
Not ever.
