Wild Wednesday Extras
Here is a pitfall many dancers succumb
to: Arm Extras. You are probably familiar with them. This is when an extra
flourish, dip, movement or other embellishment is added to the port de bras.
This is often done unconsciously, but sometimes in an effort to add a personal
style.
These unwanted and unnecessary extras
often include raising the arms too high prior to a grand plié, excessive wrist
movements, or overly exaggerated movements in general.
Ballet’s beauty lies in its simplicity.
As the classic line in the movie The
Birdcage goes “…don’t add, subtract.”
Keep it simple!
