Saturday Statute Street Feet

Saturday Statute Street Feet

The basic theme for ballet is turnout. Turnout turnout turnout. When in doubt, turn it out. There is seldom a time (except when using sixth position) that a dancer is not turned out.

Therefore, the feet are never parallel (again, except for sixth position). Parallel, straight-ahead feet are the way a person walks normally down the street. Street feet. Also, street feet are not only parallel, but the movement goes from heel to toe, and ballet movement does the opposite, toe to heel.

Therefore, as per Ballet Statute #129: “There are no street feet in ballet.”

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Statute #129:
“There are no street feet in ballet.”
