Wild Wednesday Silence
Sometimes the answers are simple. Teachers often tell their students to “roll
through their feet”, especially during petit allegro combinations. This action of the feet creates a correct and
safe landing platform, as well as an effective push for the following
jump. But so often the “rolling” action
doesn’t happen, and a good deal of thudding results.
Instead, without music, ask the students to try landing
their jumps without making a sound. I have discovered that when they do this,
they instinctively roll through their feet.
Then have the students pay attention to what their feet do when they are
trying to land softly, and they will discover the “rolling through the feet”
process on their own.
