Technical Tuesday Grand Plié
Ballet Secret #2G states:
“There are four parts to a grand plié”. This was discussed in an earlier blog (http://balletwebb.blogspot.com/2014/02/technical-tuesday-and-four-parts.html),
and today I want to emphasize the importance of the third part. This is when the
heels return to the floor and it is the most important moment in the step. It can be overlooked – especially by
beginners.
Imagine that the heels are anxious to get back and kiss the
floor. This image works well for young,
beginning dancers. As the heels leave
the floor in part two of the grand plié, they are almost immediately trying to
return to their “beloved” floor and give it a kiss with both heels.
This is a good thing for more advanced dancers to keep in
the back of their mind. The heels spend
only a brief moment “out of touch” with the floor.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #2L:
“In a grand plié,
imagine that the heels are anxious to get back and kiss the floor.”

Quote
of the Day:
“I am determined to be cheerful and
happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the
greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance
but by our disposition.
