Mad Monday Balancé
Is there anything worse than a balancé that stays in almost
the same spot? It gets a hippity-hoppity look, and doesn’t allow for much (or
any) stretch in the legs or feet. Scary.
The solution is simple. That’s right, a simple answer for
once. Use more plié. When the plié deepens
the extended leg goes out further, and thus the dancer is able to travel a
greater distance. A deeper plié also makes the balancé flow, with that lovely
waltz-like quality the step demands. And all it takes is a slight deepening in
the plié.
I told you it was simple!
Power to the plié!

either side to side or forward and/or back.”
