Fun Friday Stick
Today’s quote made me think of many
things. One of which is the word “stick”. How many places in ballet do we use
this concept? Lots.
We stick
a landing in a jump; we stick a passé
to the knee in a pirouette to prevent the dreaded floating passé; we stick (or slick) our hair back to
prevent wispies; we stick multiple
hairpins in our buns; we stick to
beginning and ending everything in a good fifth position…and on and on.
And, as the quote below reminds us, we
have the stick-to-it mindset that
allows us to dance in the first place.
Stick, it turns out (no pun intended), is a pretty
important thing in ballet.
From the Big
Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret #21fff:
“There are many instances in dance of the word ‘stick’.”

Quote of the Day:
“You have
to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to
store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems
to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel
alive.”
