Mad Monday Grapefruit

Mad Monday Grapefruit

As we know, there is no drooping in ballet. But sometimes, drooping shows up in unexpected places – like the underarms. Scary.

This usually happens during a port de bras, when the arms move downward into fifth en bas and the space between the arms and the torso disappears. There is always space between the arms and the body, and to keep it there here is an image that might help.

Imagine a grapefruit in each armpit. That’s right, a grapefruit. This helps keep the space and buoyancy beneath the arms, and remember - at no time is one allowed to squash the grapefruit!

From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Ballet Secret #6vvv:
“Imagine a grapefruit in each armpit.”

Quote of the Day:
“Twitter is a serious writing distraction.
As are grapefruits.
The two have nothing else in common.”
