Mad Monday Top Turn
I love using props in a dance class. It
makes the concepts being taught so beautifully visual.
Today’s video Link of the Day uses a child’s toy – a large top – to demonstrate how
spin is generated, and how the same concepts applies to pirouette preparations.
One thing I'd like to emphasize is the hydraulic
nature of the mechanism. That is, it uses resistance. This is another essential
element for dancers, especially when they plié, to prevent dropping down or
using jerky movements. It all must be very hydraulic.
