Fun Friday Striped Imagination
Most of the time in ballet, the torso is level and square. It sounds simple, but like most things in dance, it isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Often the hips tilt sideways (as in a passé), or the seat sticks out (as in a tendu derriere), or something else happens that distorts the required level and straight. Scary.
Although you would never do this is reality because of the strict dress codes for ballet classes, imagine wearing a black and white striped leotard. The stripes are horizontal (parallel to the floor) and are perfectly straight and level. If the hips tilt, or the seat tips back, it would be immediately obvious.
You could imagine any colors for this imaginary leotard, as long as the stripes are level and square.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Ballet Secret # 1qqq:
“Imagine wearing a leotard with black and
white horizontal stripes.”

“Surround
yourself with people that want more out of life. That won’t settle for average.
People that you can connect with on a deeper level. Keep your circle fresh.
Keep your circle full of quality rather than quantity.”
