Scintillating Saturday Sparkles
Dancers are familiar with all those sequins and rhinestones
that adorn costumes. Designed to catch the light and reflect it, these
embellishments add a level of glamour and excitement to a performance. But a
dancer can inspire an audience without
those added accoutrements.
A dancer I once worked with used to wish dancers luck before
a performance by saying “Sparkle!”.
This is a great image for the stage, but also for daily classwork, although in
a more subdued way. Dance as if your body itself sparkles, radiating glimmers
of light in all directions, like sunlight dancing off water.
Imagine yourself sparkling when you dance, and especially
when you perform. Whether your costume is studded with jewels or not, you can
still wow the audience. Sound silly? It isn’t. Try it.
The mind is a powerful thing.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
“Imagine your whole body sparkling, like sun reflecting on water.”

Quote
of the Day:
““Consider the fact that maybe…just
maybe…beauty and worth aren’t found in a makeup bottle, or a salon-fresh
hairstyle, or a fabulous outfit. Maybe our sparkle comes from somewhere deeper
inside, somewhere so pure and authentic and REAL, it doesn’t need gloss or
polish or glitter to shine.”
