Mad Monday Maintaining
One handy little trade secret involves petit allegro
combinations. These jumping sets are
always featured in any good ballet class, and are almost always found in auditions. And, since we are not perfect, mistakes happen.
When it comes to auditions, we hope our mistakes will be
few, or at least go unnoticed. The
easiest way to escape detection in any jumping combination is simple: just
keep jumping! If you continue
bouncing merrily along, in tempo with the rest of the group, it is likely that
any minor error will go unnoticed. (Unless
it is a monumental blunder, in which case all hope is lost.)
So maintain the tempo and the bounce until the combination
of steps can be picked up again and continued in the intended way.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets:
Secret #15o:
“In any petit allegro combination, if a mistake is made, just keep
jumping in tempo.”
