Mad Monday Following
Dancers tend to put their attention on
areas like their legs and their turnout. That’s great up to a point (no pun
intended). But when a problem arises here is another way to proceed.
Focus on your following arm. Think of this as the two Fs: Following Focus. No matter what you are doing, from pirouettes to
jumps, or just the first combination in the center, think about the following
arm.
Often this arm is forgotten and it
droops (and there is no drooping in ballet), or it simply doesn’t have enough
energy in it to counterbalance whatever else is going on.
There’s that equal and opposite energy
thing again! Following Focus!
