Saturday Off
Some things are not exactly as they
seem. Take, for example the term “off-Broadway”. You would think this means a
show that isn’t literally on the street named Broadway, but that’s not it.
Actually,
it doesn’t refer to the geography at
all. Instead, it means the number of seats: Broadway theatres have 500 seats, off-Broadway
have 100-499 seats, off-off-Broadway have less than 100 seats. (See https://www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/20-amazing-theatre-facts_34626.html
for more information.)
Now you know!
From the Big
Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #:
“The term off-Broadway isn't
geographical.”
