Fun Friday
Fist
A common
mistake dancers make is curling their toes – in tendues, dégagés or (gasp!) on
pointe. This is like trying to dance on fists.
Dancers
usually do this in an attempt to increase the flexibility of their feet
(striving for banana feet), but this is, sadly, counterproductive.
Try this: Make
a fist with your hand, then slowly uncurl it into lovely, elongated fingers.
This is how your feet should be – long and stretched. The curve of the foot is
created by lengthening, not curling.
Experimenting
by making a fist with the hands can help dancers visualize the correct action
of the feet.
From the Big Blue Book of Ballet Secrets
Secret #4t:
“Think of lengthening your toes, like
uncurling a fist.”

Quote of the Day:
“Roof of
your house is not your real roof; the walls of your house are not your real
walls, your fists are not your real fists! Your real roof, your real wall, your
real fist, your real shield is your right thinking! It is your right thinking
that protects you from every danger!”
