Sunday Choose Kindness

Choose Kindness

Human beings are presented with many choices every day. One choice that often occurs is this: To be kind, or not. Did someone cut you off in traffic? Did someone say something to someone about you that wasn’t kind and you heard about it? Did someone post something about you on social media that was cruel and mean?

In each of these – and many more – situations, it is human nature to lash out and fight back, which makes the situation grow and get worse. But there is actually another choice: ignoring. We would all do well to remember  the saying in the children’s movie Bambi that says: “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”

Many instances of cruelty or bullying will go away if ignored. If not, it is time to let someone (a parent, a teacher, a counselor, etc.) know what is going on so it can be stopped, and both parties can be helped to find better solutions. And yes, there are solutions.

Being cruel is never okay. If you feel you need to be unkind to someone, stop yourself. Make a better choice. Cruelty and bullying doesn't help anyone.

Choose kindness instead.
